This tool compares the largest container with 10% of total container volume for the basic capacity calculation in 40 CFR 264.175(b)(3). Confirm that this provision applies. Include containers with free liquids; check the rule for exceptions. This is not a complete containment design or an SPCC calculator.

40 CFR 264.175(b)(3) compares the largest container with 10% of container volume; it does not add the two figures. Other provisions address the base, drainage, run-on, and removal of accumulated liquids. Applicability and exceptions must be checked.
SPCC bulk-storage containment uses the largest single container plus sufficient precipitation freeboard, not a universal 110% multiplier. See EPA's SPCC explanation. This calculator does not size that freeboard.
Geometric examples below ignore tank displacement, slopes, rainfall, and structural requirements. Have a qualified designer determine usable capacity and applicable state, local, and permit requirements.
Corrected September 13, 2026: largest-container multiplier changed from 110% to 100% for the cited RCRA comparison.
